Planica: Emotional and exciting World Cup final

2024-03-25 · 09:20

The 2023/24 season is successfully completed. Peter Prevc and Daniel Huber were the winners at the end.

The last World Cup started with the qualification, which took place on Thursday. Four Hills Tournament winner Ryōyū Kobayashi was able to secure victory.

It was overshadowed by the fall of Finland's Eetu Nousiainen, who seriously injured his knee and tore his cruciate ligament and meniscus. We would like to take this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery!

Friday - 1st Individual Flying

Peter Prevc won the first World Cup in Planica in front of his home crowd. The Slovenian flew to 237.5 and 231.0 meters in the penultimate individual competition of his career and thus secured the acclaimed victory ahead of the Austrian Daniel Huber and the Norwegian Johann André Forfang. It is Peter Prevc's first victory in four years. His career end could not have been more emotional.

Saturday - Team Flying

The team flying on Saturday was again characterized by several crashes. The worst victim was Giovanni Bresadola, who, like Nousiainen on Friday, suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament and meniscus.

Due to the wind conditions, the ski flying competition was only held in one round. The Austrian team of Daniel Tschofenig, Michael Hayböck, Stefan Kraft and Daniel Huber (803.8 points) beat the Slovenian team (793.3 points) and the Norwegian team (770.6 points).

Sunday - 2nd Individual Flying

Sunday's competition for the overall victory in the ski flying standings was exciting. In the end, the small crystal globe was secured by Austria's Daniel Huber, who was unstoppable by the competition with his jumps of 247.0 and 242.5 meters (487.7 points). Huber came out on top by a clear lead ahead of Slovenia's Domen Prevc (444.3 points) and Poland's Aleksander Zniszczol (438.1 points).

Stefan Kraft, who was already the overall winner of the World Cup, finished in fourth place. Peter Prevc flew to sixth place in his last World Cup of his career and was celebrated by the fans in attendance afterwards.
