Kobayashi wins another trophy

2019-03-25 · 13:22

The world cup season 2018/19 is now officially over. But it was thrilling until the very end.

Markus Eisenbichler still was in the race for small cristall trophy for the overall winner of the separate ski flying ranking. And he kick-started the weekend in just the right way, celebrating his first world cup win on Friday. Ryoyu Kobayashi and Piotr Zyla competed the podium.

Now Eisenbichler "only" needed to finish Sunday's closing competition in front of Kobayashi to get the trophy. But Kobayashi flew to a new hill record of 252 metres in the first round and did not let that final win slip away after that. Domen Prevc celebrated a second rank, to the big joy of the local Slovenian crowd. Eisenbichler finished the competition on third rank.

The previous day, the team competition had gone down with a win for team Poland. It was, as Stefan Horngacher confirmed shortly after the season closed, his last win as Polish head coach. The Austrian is expected to success to his compatriot Werner Schuster as head coach of the German team.
