Kraft wins, Siegel falls

2019-01-21 · 11:40

Stefan Kraft has won the first world cup for Austria after almost two years. In the team competition Germany wins – yet noone is really happy.

The reason for the bad mood: David Siegel fell during his second jump. He was later diagnosed with a cruciate ligament rupture and will therefore miss the rest of the season.

Before, team Germany had put on quite a show and even after losing many points to the fall of Siegel they still won the competiton – with 0,1 points advance to neighbour Austria. On third position Poland, after the Norwegians had been disqualified half-way through the final round.

On Sunday, too, Team Austria showed a good performance. Notably with Stefan Kraft, who celebrated the first Austrian win after 22 month (and even being the one who was the one who won all that time ago in Planica in march 2017). On second place landed Robert "flying moustache" Johansson, 3rd position went to team Japan. But not to Ryoyu Kobayashi who ended on seventh position but with his team mate Yukiya Sato.

For the local heros of team Poland the day did not go as they had planned at all: None of them made it into the Top10 with national hero Kamil Stoch even missing the final round.

Next stop of the world cup is Sapporo.
