Summer Grand Prix final in Klingenthal
Over the weekend, the ski jumping elite gathered in Klingenthal’s Sparkassen Arena for the final event of the FIS Summer Grand Prix. Traditionally, Klingenthal hosts the last stop of the summer series before the winter season begins in November. The competition offers a final opportunity to test form and equipment ahead of the winter season.
Once again, the start list featured many top athletes. Among them were Slovenia’s Anže Lanišek and Domen Prevc, Poland’s Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch, as well as Norway’s Halvor Egner Granerud. The German team was represented by Andreas Wellinger, Karl Geiger, Philipp Raimund and Pius Paschke. For many of them, the competition in Klingenthal serves as a valuable benchmark against international competition at the end of the summer season.
A distinctive feature of this year’s event in Klingenthal is its hybrid competition format, which was also previously used in Hinzenbach. While the inrun takes place on an ice track, just like in winter World Cup events, the landing area on the hill is covered with green plastic mats. This combination showcases that ski jumping can be held regardless of the season or weather conditions. The result is a fascinating blend of winter and summer elements, highlighting the versatility of modern ski jumping.
The official training and qualification rounds took place on Friday, October 24th. The individual competition on the large hill followed on Saturday, before the weekend concluded with the mixed team event on Sunday.
Despite challenging wind conditions, Domen Prevc delivered the best performance in Friday’s qualification, securing him the day’s win. However, in the subsequent individual competition he was outjumped by two competitors. Ryoyu Kobayashi impressed with a 144-meter jump in the first round and confidently maintained his lead in the second round to take the victory. Philipp Raimund finished second after another strong performance, which secured him the overall win in the FIS Summer Grand Prix standings. Domen Prevc completed the podium in third place.
In the mixed team competition on Sunday, Team Japan claimed victory, with Slowenia finishing second and Norway in third place.
The exciting final in Klingenthal marked the end of the 2025 summer season. The athletes now have around three and a half weeks to prepare for the World Cup opener in Lillehammer, Norway, in mid-November.
