Austrian ski jumper Manuel Fettner has announced that he will retire after the upcoming Olympic season. "Each year it becomes a bit harder to keep up with the younger athletes," said the nearly 40-year-old in a statement from the Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV). He added that the anticipation for this final season has grown stronger: "With the Ski Flying World Championships and the Olympics, it could be the perfect way to end my career."
Fettner will look back on an impressive career spanning 25 years. He made his World Cup debut at just 15 years old during the 2001 Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck. Among his greatest achievements are Olympic gold with the team and individual silver at the 2022 Beijing Games. He also won team gold at the 2013 Nordic World Championships in Val di Fiemme and bronze in 2017 in Lahti.
