After a rest day, the Four Hills Tournament arrived at the first of two stops in Austria. At the Bergisel in Innsbruck, the qualification round took place in sunny weather and in front of more than 8,000 spectators.
Contrary to what some might have expected beforehand, Slovenian Domen Prevc did not secure victory in the qualification round this time. The jumper, who had been so dominant in the tournament so far, had to contend with changeable and difficult wind conditions at Bergisel. With a jump of 112 meters, he finished only 30th. However, it should be noted that Prevc received the highest wind compensation in the field with 26.9 points.
The qualification victory went to Jan Hoerl, who impressed the home crowd with a jump of 128 meters. With a total of 132.5 points, he led a strong Austrian quartet. Stefan Kraft finished second with 131.6 points, followed by Stephan Embacher in third place with 129.4 points. Defending champion Daniel Tschofenig completed the Austrian top four, finishing with 127.9 points.
It was also a very positive day for Roman Koudelka. The Czech jumper achieved a strong ninth place in the qualification with a jump of 124.5 meters and a total of 120.1 points.
Unfortunately, the qualification in Innsbruck did not end without a disqualification. After the competition, Poland’s Pawel Wasek was disqualified due to residues of fluorinated ski wax found on his skis. As a result, he is not allowed to compete in tomorrow’s event and received a yellow card.
