What a finale on Epiphany Day: In once again freezing temperatures, the 74th Four Hills Tournament came to an end in front of 12,500 spectators at the Paul Ausserleitner Hill in Bischofshofen. Although Domen Prevc had to settle for second place in the final competition, the result was more than enough to secure the greatest success of his career.
The day’s victory went to last years overall winner Daniel Tschofenig. With two strong jumps, the Austrian prevailed ahead of overall winner Prevc and Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi. Kobayashi completed the podium with jumps of 137 and 138 meters and a total of 299.6 points, missing out on second place by just 0.2 points.
Just behind the podium followed an impressive team performance from Austria. Jan Hoerl finished fourth with jumps of 135.5 and 139 meters, only 0.7 points short of third place. He was followed by Stephan Embacher in fifth, Stefan Kraft on sixth place and Manuel Fettner came in seventh.
The longest jump of the day was delivered by Ren Nikaido. The Japanese athlete soared to an impressive 141 meters in the second round, but had to settle for eighth place in the day’s standings with a total of 281.8 points. The top ten were completed by Slovenia’s Anze Lanisek (281.4 points) and Felix Hoffmann, who finished tenth with jumps of 133 and 137 meters and 279.9 points.
With his second-place finish in Bischofshofen, Domen Prevc sealed his first overall victory at the Four Hills Tournament. Exactly ten years after his brother Peter’s triumph, the “Domenator” claimed the Golden Eagle with a commanding lead of 42.3 points. Second place in the overall standings went to Jan Hoerl, who collected a total of 1,153.3 points across the four competitions. His teammate Stephan Embacher secured third place, adding another Austrian success story to the tournament.
After winning the Golden Eagle, Domen Prevc was visibly overwhelmed: „Yeah, it is a really special moment for me. It's 10 years from Peter's victory. Now it's in my hands and I'm super blushed with all the emotions and everything. All the emotions. And now I should drink a like glass beer. Everything is coming together, finally. It's just amazing that I managed to get in the best form for four hills. And here it's the result of all the hard work, all the dedication, all the consistency each day that I wanted to achieve something great. Yeah, super, super amazing.“
Jan Hoerl summed up the competition in Bischofshofen and his performance in the tour as follows: “I think last year in Bischofshofen was absolutely incredible with everything that happened. This year, there was a bit less expectation. I felt much less pressure and could enjoy it more. The jumps were very solid, so there’s really no reason to complain. It was an absolutely fantastic day – and after today’s result, there’s definitely nothing to complain about.”
