Domen Prevc won the qualification for the opening competition of the 74th Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf. The Slovenian finished ahead of Philipp Raimund and defending champion Daniel Tschofenig, taking the lead heading into the first competition.

Domen Prevc won the qualification for the opening competition of the 74th Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf. On Sunday evening, the Slovenian recorded a jump of 139.5 metres and scored a total of 150.9 points to take first place. Competing on home soil, Germany’s Philipp Raimund finished second with a jump of 132.5 metres and 140.2 points. Defending champion Daniel Tschofenig of Austria completed the podium with 131.5 metres and 139.6 points.
Prevc, who had not topped the rankings in training, showed a clear improvement in the qualification and moved decisively to the top of the field. The qualification determines the pairings for the knockout duels in the first round of the competition. In front of 15,500 spectators at the Schattenberg Ski Jump, Raimund achieved the best result among the German athletes. Felix Hoffmann, who had been among the leaders in training, finished 12th with a jump of 126 metres, while Pius Paschke placed 21st. Andreas Wellinger also qualified for the competition after a recent training phase, but his jump of 117 metres was only enough for 39th place. In the first round, he will face Hoffmann in a head-to-head duel. Constantin Schmid (44th) and Luca Roth (46th) also advanced to the competition.
In addition to Prevc, Slovenia’s Timi Zajc delivered a strong performance, finishing fourth with a jump of 135 metres. He was followed by Austria’s Jan Hörl in fifth place and Stephan Embacher in sixth. Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi placed seventh, ahead of Switzerland’s Gregor Deschwanden in eighth. The top ten were completed by Slovenia’s Anze Lanisek and Norway’s Johann Andre Forfang.
The trial round is scheduled for Monday at 15:00, followed by the first round of the competition in the knockout format at 16:30.
