2017-07-21 · 15:52

The 28 year old injures himself during practice and will miss the Four Hills Tournament and the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

Giant shock in the german team. Severin Freund ruptured his right cruciate ligament again last Thursday during his second jumping unit in Oberstdorf. “While landing I felt a sting in my right knee. Subsequently the knee felt unstable.“ After this injury Freud will for sure miss the Olympic Games 2018 in Pyeongchang. “During my career I’ve overcome a few setbacks and know how to handle them.“ said the Olympic champion of Sotschi 2014.

Freund already underwent surgery this Friday in Munich. “The operation went well“ attested the senior DSV-team physician and surgeon Dr. Peter Brucker. “The cruciate ligament was replaced, the interior meniscus was stitched and part of the outer meniscus smoothed. Its is anticipated that Severin Freund will stay in the hospital for a few days until he can start with the first rehabilitation measures.“

National coach Werner Schuster suffers with his athlete: “The renewed injury is very bitter for Severin himself as well as for the whole team. It will be a challenge for all of his to compensate his absence during the Olympic Winter Games. For now we wish Severin a fast recovery.“

Freund just had a rupture of the cruciate ligament as well as of the meniscus in his right knee in January of this year. Before that he had to deal with hip problems.

We wish Severin all the best on his way back and wish him a fast recovery!
