Kubacki not to be defeated in Hinterzarten

2017-07-31 · 11:04

Polish team continues to be excellent. Stephan Leyhe wins first podium place in his career.

Just like at the kick-off jumping in Wisla Dawid Kubacki dominated the competition in Hinterzarten. Even during the first run the 27 year old Pole showed that he would not be beaten on this day. By half-time he was leading by 7,9 points ahead of qualifications-winner Stephan Leyhe, who was leading the field for a long time. In the second jump the leader made a distance of 104,5 meter and secured the victory with 283,3 points. With two strong jumps at 102,5 and 103,5 meter (271,4 points ) Leyhe ranked second and thereby stood on the podium, for the first time in his career in this competition category. Ranked 3rd was Piotr Zyla, who had the same distances as Leyhe but had to admit a narrow defeat.

Therefore two Poles were standing on the podium in Wisla. Overall six athletes from the team by head coach Stefan Horngacher placed among the top ten. The German team could be satisfied as well. Karl Geiger from Oberstdorf, still on the podium in Wisla, ranked 12th and missed the top ten narrowly. Returnee Markus Eisenbichler on 15th and Richard Freitag on 16th completed the result, which was especially decent in its breadth.

The competition did not go as ideally for Austria, specifically for the just returned Stefan Kraft. The double world champion and overall World Cup winner ranked 14th at his first competition in this season. Best jumper of the team was Gregor Schlierenzauer, who ranked 11th.

Thereby Kubacki enlarges his lead in the overall ranking of the Summer-Grand-Prix. With 200 points he is leading the classement in front of his teammate Kot (130) and the German Leyhe (109).
