2023-04-03 · 20:02

For the end of the season in ski jumping two individual competitions and one team competition were on the program in Planica. Under difficult weather conditions the Austrians and Slovenians were the ones who managed to finish the season in the best way.

Saturday - Individual Jumping

After the individual competition scheduled for Friday had to be cancelled due to wind, it was rescheduled for Saturday before the team competition. It was already decided that there would be only one jump per athlete.

The victory was secured by the Austrian Stefan Kraft with 239.5 meters (240.5 points) followed by local matador Anze Lanisek (236 meters & 234.7 points) and Piotr Zyla from Poland (234 meters and 233.3 points). For Halvor Egner Granerud, the already determined winner in the overall World Cup, it was only enough for fourth place with 231 meters (228.4 points).

Saturday - Team Jumping

Stefan Kraft not only had something to cheer about in the individual event, the Austrian also finished in first place with the ÖSV jumpers in the team event. For a long time it looked as if the Slovenians would be able to celebrate the World Cup victory in front of their home crowd, but in the end the Austrians with Stefan Kraft, Daniel Tschofenig, Michael Hayböck and Jan Hörl (1688.7 points) prevailed narrowly with 6.1 points ahead of Anze Lanisek, Lovro Kos, Domen Prevc and Timi Zajc (1682.6 points).

Third place went to Team Norway with Johann Andre Forfang, Benedik Jakobsen Heggli, Robert Johansson and Halvor Egner Granerud (1655.2 points). Fourth and fifth place went to Poland (1549.7 points) and Germany (1451 points).

Sunday - Individual Jumping

Before the last competition of the season the overall winner of the World Cup - Halvor Egner Granerud - was already certain for a long time, but the decision about the "small crystal globe" for the overall winner in ski flying was still unsettled. Due to his victory on Friday, Stefan Kraft had fought his way up to Halvor Egner Granerud in the ski flying ranking.

In the end it was enough for the Austrian to finish third (445.1 points), because Granerud, after a failed first jump and 23rd place following the first round, only finished 13th in the end (407.5 points). First and second place of the final competition in Planica went to Slovenia's Timi Zajc (455.1 points ) and Anze Lanisek (455.0 points). In a heartbeat final in front of their home crowd, the two had a thrilling duel, which Zajc ultimately won by 0.1 points.
