Ruka: Double victory for Stefan Kraft at the World Cup opening in Finland

The 2023/2024 World Cup season is open. The winner on both competition days comes from Austria: Stefan Kraft.

Saturday - Individual Jumping

After a 21st place in the qualification the day before, Stefan Kraft was at the top at the end of the individual jumping on Saturday. With jumps of 144.0 and 143.0 meters and a total of 326.2 points, the Austrian dominated the World Cup opener and came out on top with a clear lead over the two Germans Pius Paschke (315.6 points) and Stephan Leyhe (313.2 points). It was 33-year-old Pius Paschke's first podium finish in an individual competition in the World Cup. Qualification winner Andreas Wellinger finished fourth (311.5 points).

Sunday – Individual Jumping

Stefan Kraft was also in top form on Sunday and laid the foundation for his subsequent victory in the first round. With a jump of 148.5 meters and 187.9 points, he achieved the highest total score in an individual competition on the large hill. He also jumped 148.5 meters in the second round, secured his second victory in Ruka with a total score of 363.5 points and stood on the World Cup podium for the 100th time in total.

Jan Hörl ensured the Austrian double victory with jumps of 144.5 meters and 145 meters and 340.9 points. The podium was completed by Germany's Andreas Wellinger (334.1 points). Qualification winner Johann André Forfang ended up in 26th place.

The ski jumpers are now moving on to Norway. The World Cup in Lillehammer will take place there from December 01 to 03.
