Zyla and Kraft dominate in ski flying

2020-02-17 · 10:56

At the first ski flying of the season in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria, Piotr Zyla and Stefan Kraft can secure the victories. Karl Geiger missed as the best German on both days only narrowly the podium.

After training and qualification had to be cancelled on Friday due to bad weather conditions, all 53 athletes started on Saturday after only one training jump. In the end, Piotr Zyla from Poland was able to celebrate his second World Cup victory with only 0.3 points ahead of Timi Zajc form Slovenia. The Austrian Stefan Kraft finished third and thus secured the podium place in front of his home crowd with only 0.1 points ahead of Karl Geiger, who finished fourth.

Since the safety of the jumpers could not be guaranteed at the end, the second round on Sunday was cancelled shortly before the end. So the result of the first round counted and Stefan Kraft could be happy about the first home victory of his career. Ryoyu Kobayashi and again the strong Slovenian Timi Zajc finished second and third. With sixth and tenth place, Karl Geiger and Stephan Leyhe finished as the best Germans in the Top 10.

Next weekend we will continue on the normal hill. Already on Thursday the qualification will take place in Rasnov, Romania.
