The first world cup of the new season in Wisla (Poland) has seen three debutants on the podium.

Evgeniy Klimov crowned himself champion of the day, making it not only the first win of his own career but also ending a 39 year dry spell for Russia. Stephan Leyhe showed a magnificent performance in the second half of the competition thus securing the silver medal. Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan, who’s brother won the competition the previous year, was awarded with the bronze medal.

Reigning four hills champion Kamil Stoch was left with the forth rank. After the first half, he had been in second position but finally couldn’t keep up with the three winners. The day before, in the team competition, things had been very different, though: Stoch then showed an incredible jump leaving the Polish fans out of breath and securing his team the gold medal, followed by Germany and Austria.

This week’s stop of the world cup is Ruka (Finland).
